A new spectator stand and officials building has just been completed as part of the second phase of the project to upgrade the Basingstoke sports track. This follows a £220,000 track refurbishment where the eight-lane track and arena area were resurfaced and a perimeter fence installed to protect the new facilities from anti-social behaviour.
Maria Miller MP said, “Athletes in the borough are set to benefit from new facilities following the completion of work to improve the athletics facilities at Down Grange Sports Complex.
“This substantial investment in our local sports facilities, funded through the Council’s capital funding programme and developers’ contributions will enable our many athletes competing at all levels to both train and compete using the newest facilities”
In addition to improvements organised by the council, a new clubhouse is also being built for Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club, following a long fundraising campaign by the club.
The athletics track is still available to the public and is free to use for up to three people. Groups of three or more people do need to book the facility and can find out more information at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/hire-sports-facilities
