Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has met Highways England for a review of the roadworks at Black Dam roundabout. Maria asked for the briefing following the delay in completion of this important infrastructure project. Completion of the new "hamburger" style roundabout is now expected in November.
Maria said: "The roadworks at Black Dam are causing considerable delay for local residents and businesses. We need the works to be completed as soon as possible. The exact location of gas, electricity and water utilities have caused problems at the site. Many of these basic utilities were laid decades ago when the exact mapping of cables and pipes was not as accurate as it is today.”
“Highways England and their contractors have had to deal with more complex issues regarding buried utilities than they had expected. With a significant number of major road works planned for Basingstoke in the coming years it is vital that lessons are learnt from the Black Dam experience. This needs to be factored in to the programme of works planned for Basingstoke roundabouts as part of the Local Plan.”
“I will continue to keep in touch with Highways England as the works near completion.”
