This week Local MP Maria Miller signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, in doing so pledging her commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as paying tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.
After signing the Book of Commitment, Maria said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a poignant time and an important opportunity for people from my constituency, the UK and all around the world to reflect on the darkest times of European history. As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the six million Jewish victims, to pay tribute to the survivors, and to remember those who still face persecution today for who they are.”
This year marks 77 years since the liberation of the concentration camps of Europe and the end of the Second World War. On the 27th January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, people across the globe will remember.
On Thursday 27th January, Maria will be joining thousands of others in attending the UK Ceremony for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 to remember those who were murdered and to stand up to prejudice and hatred today. As part of the ceremony, households across the UK will be lighting candles as a symbol of hope.
