Maria Miller MP said, ‘’Car meets and associated dangerous driving continues to be a significant problem across Hampshire. Police have seen an increase of dangerous driving across the County. Basingstoke, however, has bucked this trend, with no reported incidents in the last 6 weeks. This is very welcome news and pays testament to the assiduous work of local Councillors, residents and the Police.
"Hampshire Police are continuing to increase levels of action against those attending illegal car meets and are impounding cars that are illegally participating in these events.
"We must continue to make Basingstoke the most inhospitable place in Hampshire for these events to take place by reporting them as soon as they occur. Doing so ensures the Police are aware of exactly where the problems are happening, allowing them to effectively allocate resources.
If you believe a car meet is going on the police can be contacted on 999 in an emergency, on 101, or online using this link https://www.police.uk/pu/contact-the-police/
Vehicle crime can also be reported through Hants SNAP, which is a police initiative that targets road traffic crime. More information and details of how to upload dashcam footage can be found here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/police-forces/hampshire-constabulary/areas/hants-snap/hantsnap/hants-snap---report-an-incident/
"We must work with the police to create safer streets and safer communities. Basingstoke roads cannot be used as a racetrack.’’
