Maria Miller MP said, “10,300 households in Basingstoke on low-incomes will start to receive the latest cost-of-living payment from the government to tackle ongoing high bills.
“Basingstoke residents on means-tested benefits including Universal Credit will receive £301 from now until the 17th May. Further instalments of £300 and £299 will also be paid in the Autumn and next Spring. All payments to eligible residents will be made automatically.”
Maria added, “In addition, during the summer, more than six million people across the country with disabilities will get an extra £150 and during next winter, over eight million pensioners will receive an extra £300.
“These latest additional payments will be welcomed by millions of families – as will further payments due over the next year. The government have continually supported those most vulnerable to rising costs, including through record benefits and national living wage increases as well as these exceptional Cost of Living Payments responding to the global pressures we are facing”.
“Many households will be using less gas during the coming warmer summer months, and the longer days will mean that’s lights will be on for shorter periods too.
"The likelihood is that bills could also fall in the summer, as lower wholesale energy costs paid by suppliers feed through to consumers”.
