Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke, has welcomed the increase in the number of apprenticeships in Basingstoke.
The Government has delivered a record number of apprenticeships in England, with half a million people starting an apprenticeship last year. Thanks to the Government’s investment, 142 more young people in England are starting an apprenticeship every single day.
In Basingstoke, 1,120 people started an apprenticeship last year. That’s an increase of 510 apprenticeships compared to the record under the last Government. The number of young people starting an apprenticeship in Basingstoke has increased by 100%.
Visiing BCOT’s automotive apprentices in the workshop at the College recently, Maria said:
“It is fantastic that 1,120 people in Basingstoke started an apprenticeship last year. That is 100% more than under the last Government. This Government is getting behind people who work hard and want to get on in life.”
She added: “Apprenticeships are a great way to help people get the skills they need to make a better future for themselves. BCOT is a top performing College delivering a wide range of apprenticeships and provides a fantastic opportunity for people in Basingstoke to have the chance to earn and learn at the same time.”
